Demo Track – Go North

This is a demo that I’ve been working on for the album – it’s coming out really well, so I’m happy to be able to share it with you!

Lyrics:

I used to live in the heart of the city
I left last July when the air got gritty
Went down stoop and put on my good walking shoes

I took a few steps out to the intersection
The time had come to choose my new direction
I took a few turns and I set out on my way

Go north go north go north my soul
Spit and rage and lose control
I know you and you are not this

I reached the city limits in no time flat
Thought I’d keep going, see where the action was at
The sun was warm and my feet were feeling fine

Out in the ‘burbs some friendly smiles
It all looked the same for miles and miles
So many different lives but none of these were mine

Go north go north go north my friend
Follow that road round the bend
There’s only one way down and you know how this ends

I came to the woods on the 19th night
I took a look around, felt a bit of fright
Sounds and shapes surrounding unfamiliar

The woods thinned out as I came to the snow
Feet so tired and my spirits were low
But looking back there was only one way to go

Go north go north go north my soul
Spit and rage and lose control
I know you and you are not this

Go north go north go north my friend
Follow that road round the bend
There’s only one way down and you know how this ends

Out in the tundra I found me a village
Far from the city’s toxic illage
The natives wondered to see one like me there

A brief stay before I continued on
I strolled off into subarctic dawn
I’d like to rest but I must be on my way

Go north go north go north my soul
Spit and rage and lose control
I know you and you are not this

Go north go north go north my friend
Follow that road round the bend
There’s only one way down and you know how this ends

New Video – You Enjoy Myself (YEM), by Phish

This is a rainy-day project of mine. I decided to finally learn how to play You Enjoy Myself, by Phish. I’ve included the root chords throughout the song as well as some playing & improvisation tips. Let me know what you think in the comments!

This is one of those iconic songs, it got me into Phish in a big way when I first heard it on Junta and the version on A Live One led to a “click” moment for me with tension & release improvisation. Many thanks to Trey & Phish for bringing this awesome music into the world. If you like this one, please check out my other videos and original songs on my youtube channel.
